Background Outline :
The first Bahinai Award was given to Padmashree N.D.Mahanor, who played a pivotal role in spreading Bahinbai’s poetry in the nook & crevice of Maharashtra. He also took special efforts in preparing a Deepawali issue on her & spread word amongst poets/ poetess of repute. This award, set up for encouraging poets/ poetess of new generation, is an effort expression of gratitude towards N.D. Mahanor.
The relationship between Mahanor and Jain Charities is longstanding & firm, Jain Charities, an institution dedicated to social work, accepted the sponsorship of the award in recognition of this bond to encourage the poets/poetess of new breed who have recently entered or are trying to enter this field.

Selection Process :
• Applications are not invited.
• Collection/publications are available from Publishers & friends of Poets/poetess.
• A trustee & two renowned literatures from poetry from a committee which appreciates the poetical compositions.
• Thoughtful balanced discussions take place in the meeting.
• Two members of the committee are changed every year.
• The names of committee members are kept secret.
